A gift and a responsibility

In the modern world human body is the most pampered aspect to have received the maximum benefits of human’s intellectual explorations. Right from the earliest evolution of man in cultivation of crops to secure a streamlined supply of food, to the latest ergonomically designed chairs to address the back problems for man working on the computer for long hours are all developed to address the physical needs of man.

Ironically, I don’t see myself and many around me giving the relevant importance to our own body as the quantum of abuse that the body is put to is quite alarming. Interestingly there is a great level of ignorance prevailing in addressing this all important aspect in our day to day living.

Abuse of body is not restricted only to habits widely known to create health hazards like consumption of tobacco and alcohol in its various forms but in lifestyle management as a whole. Its in the type of food we eat, the posture we sit, stand and walk, its in basking of the comforts of modern day living and the stress we endure in the same modern day living. Paradoxically man’s intellectual explorations have resulted in increased mortality rate of the average human, but it has also led the average man to relax in its comforts leading man to newer health hazards.  Obesity, Arthritis, Premature Graying and loss of hair, Spondylitis, Cholesterol are some of the aliments amplified by the comforts of modern day living.

Science and medical fields will strive to help us live longer and better, but it’s in our control to ensure that we don’t abuse what is given by nature to many of us in the first place - a healthy body. Science and medical fields may even evolve to create a superior gene for the future man with the perfect body. But to maintain it, it’s the responsibility of the man who resides in that body. It’s in our hands to take care of our overall health. Man’s body by nature seeks comfort , that’s a design of existence and today’s life style satiates this in more than one way, but the modern day man should take time out to see if he is following the basics of a healthy lifestyle management to off-set it’s ill effects. Intelligent eating and a minimum quantum of physical activity is a must for the modern man to outsmart the perils of today’s comfortable lifestyle, failing which this great gift of a healthy body will be subjected to unwarranted modern day health hazards.  Healthy living and graceful aging are imperative to live life to the fullest and that can be achieved only when we re-align our life style management to its ideal path.

Health is the intangible wealth that we need to spend all the tangible and materialistic wealth we accumulate or else we may end up spending most of our tangible and materialistic wealth to doctor our lost health.
